Create effective diversion programs for at-risk populations
Our office will create effective diversion and deflection programs for those suffering from addiction, mental illness, or housing insecurity. By reducing our incarcerated population, we can shift the resources which would have otherwise been used to lock people up and reinvest these resources into our communities. It is well past time that Maricopa County implemented a pre-adjudication felony Veterans’ Court to rehabilitate those who have served our country. Veterans’ Courts create and supervise treatment plans to address the underlying causes of addiction and criminal behavior. Specialty courts like these save our taxpayers money and help communities by investing in evidence-based treatment. Likewise, this office will end the prosecution of our most at-risk and marginalized people by decriminalizing sex work, crimes of poverty, and homelessness.
